How To Put The Wormcity Wormery Together www.wormcitywormery.co.uk
Open Your Box As soon As You Can And Remove Your Wormery
You Should Have 1 x Coir Block, 1 x Instructions, 1 x Worm Food, 1 x Bag Of Worms (or Voucher) 1 x Bag Of Taps/Screws (If You Have Bought The Value Pack You Will Also Have A Book And A Kitchen Caddy)
You May Have 3/4/ or 5 Depending On The Size Wormery You Ordered. These Trays Hold Your Worms And Food
This Tray Has A Hole In The Side.
In This Bag You Should Have 1 x Tap And Back Nut, 2 x White Screws And Wingnuts.
Get A Bucket And Fill It Half Full With Water And Out The Coir Block In It. The Coir Block Will Expand And Break Up. Coir Block Is Compressed Coconut Fibre, Its Salt Free And PH Neutral (Not Acid Or Alkaline)
Take One Composting Tray And Place Upside Down, Then Place The Sump Tray (With Hole On Side) On Top And Align. Push The Two Screws Through The Holes Of Both Trays
Turn The Trays Carefully Onto Their Sides And Put The Wingnuts Onto The Backs Of The Screws.
Your Base Unit Has Now Been Built.
You Will Notice That That One Of The Lids Has A Hole In The Side. This Is The Sump
Place The Sump Into The Sump Tray, You Will Notice That The Holes Align.
Push The Tap Through The Holes.
Add The Nut Onto The Back - If You Have Problems Screwing The Nut Onto The Back Simply Hold The Nut And Turn The Tap.
Your Ready Now To Add Your First Composting Tray - Simply Sit It On Top On The Base Unit. NB PUT ANY OTHER TRAYS ASIDE YOU WON'T NEED THESE FOR A MONTH OR TWO
Place Some Sheets Of Newspaper On The Bottom Of Your Composting Tray - This Will Help Prevent The Worms Escaping Downwards Into The Sump
You Will Notice That Your Coir Block Has Expanded, Break Up Any Remaining Lumps With your Hands
Remove The Coir From Your Bucket And Squeeze As Much Of The Water Out As You Can. Then Place It On Top Of The Newspaper In Your Composting Tray. Its Really Helpful If You Can Mix Some Old Compost / Soil Into The Mixture To Introduce Some Micro-organisms. This Will Make The Worms 'Feel At Home' Quicker
Open The White Bag And Empty Your Worms On Top Of The Prepared Coir Block.
You Will Notice That The Worms Will Start To Burrow Downwards To Get Away From The Light.
Open The Plastic Bag Containing The Worm Food And Sprinkle A Handful Over The Coir.
Dampen Some More Newspaper (Sheets Or Shredded Or Cardboard).
Place The Damp Sheets Of Newspaper On The Surface Of The Wormery, Covering All The Coir. Always Make Sure That You Have A Layer Of Paper / Cardboard On Top At All Times, The Worms Will Eat This So It Will Need Replacing. Having The Paper There Gives The Worms Something To Work Under, It Also Keeps The Wormery Dark And Stops Flies Being Able To Lay Their Eggs On Any Food.
Place Your Lid On Top Of Your Wormery. Set Up Is Now Complete ! Leave Alone For Two Weeks
After A Couple Of Weeks Add A Handful Of Food. Continue Feeding Small Amounts. DO NOT OVERFEED
When The First Tray Is Nearly Full Add The Next Composting Tray On Top. The Worms Will Gradually Make Their Way Upwards Into The Upper Tray Through The Holes. Remember To Cover With Paper, Add Extra Trays As Needed On Top
After About Three Months (Season Dependant) The Bottom Tray Should Be Composted. All The Food Should Have Been Eaten. Leaving Rich Black Vermicompost. This Can Now Be Emptied And Used. Pick Out Any Stray Worms And Eggs, Empty The Tray And Replace Back On The Top
The End - Thank you for watching www.wormcitywormery.co.uk
